In Their Words: Leftists Blame Israel for Hamas’ Terrorism

by | Nov 2, 2023 | Culture War

Not long after Hamas-affiliated terrorists stormed into Israeli territory and began kidnapping and murdering Israeli citizens in cold blood, we saw thousands of people in Congress, college campuses, and Hollywood take a stand. Shockingly, however, they did not condemn these horrors—and blamed the victim by saying it was Israel’s fault.

This is a radical element in American politics that has been festering for years. They claim to be “woke,” supporting equality and decolonization. But that equality apparently doesn’t include innocent victims of a terrorist group that want to take over Israel’s hard-won national territories.

America’s free speech tradition means that these people can say horrible things. More speech, more protests, and more discourse allow ideas to compete with other ideas and state on their own merits.

And in this case, free speech helps us find out who has the worst ideas. Since these folks have kindly shown their true colors on Twitter and elsewhere, we can expose who they are even when they try to scurry back into retractions and half-measure apologies.

We’ve compiled some of the worst comments from some of the people whose true colors have been exposed.

Never Go Full Tlaib

No list of anti-Israel comments would be complete without Michigan Congresswoman Rashida Tlaib. She’s famous for making outrageous and anti-Semitic statements, but her refusal to walk back the lie that the Israeli Defense Force bombed a Baptist hospital in Gaza may be the most outrageous yet. Even the White House has confirmed a faulty rocket launched from Gaza is the culprit for the explosion.

Rashida Tlaib on X:

Israel just bombed the Baptist Hospital killing 500 Palestinians (doctors, children, patients) just like that.

@POTUS this is what happens when you refuse to facilitate a ceasefire &  help de-escalate.

Your war and destruction only approach has opened my eyes and many Palestinian Americans and Muslims Americans like me. We will remember where you stood.

Just like Tlaib, ‘blame Israel first, ask questions later’ is the common rhetorical thread for the Pro-Hamas movement online.

Here is Southern Methodist University professor Dr. Omar Suleiman, who is also the founder and president of the Yaqeen Institute for Islamic Research, summing up this sentiment:

For decades, Israel has been assaulting, terrorizing and murdering thousands of innocent Palestinian civilians with impunity, mostly consisting of women and children. This is besides the panoply of other well-documented human rights abuses, including forced evictions, arbitrary detention, torture and censorship. Where was the same universal outrage and wall-to-wall media coverage in the United States to condemn these atrocities and proudly say, ‘We Stand with Palestine?’”

Australian writer and self-described “bogan” socialist took issue with any coverage portraying the October 7th Hamas attack as “unprovoked.”

They’re Repeating The Word ‘Unprovoked’ Again, This Time In Defense Of Israel

We’re seeing the western political/media class bleating the word “unprovoked” in unison again, this time in reference to the massive multi-pronged operation launched by Hamas against Israel on Saturday morning which reportedly killed hundreds of Israelis.

Blaming the Victim

Podcaster Radio Free Amanda drew a clear line in the sand be declaring you can’t support the Palestinian people without supporting Hamas—and, of course, called Israelites “occupiers”:

Hamas—and the rest of the Resistance—is what’s keeping Palestinians from total annihilation at the hands of the occupiers. Please keep your “I stand with Palestinians, not Hamas” to yourself.

Hollywood might not have the brightest bulbs in the drawer, but actor John Cusack appeared to have accidentally tweeted some serious self-reflection after attending a Pro-Hamas march in Chicago:

I realized my moral litmus test without historical context is , given the realities of the situation – meaningless .

Of course, 3 days later, Cusack was ready to start moralizing again:

Inhumanity cannot be acceptable in any notion of civilization.  Nothing can excuse the inhumanity imposed by Israel even in the face of Hamas insanity.  Netanyahu has failed , plain and simple… his super hardline is a complete failure and he has no endgame.

Hamas the Real Victim?

Al Jazeera’s former Bureau Chief for Latin America Dima Khatib seems to think the major media newsrooms are chock full of Anti-Palestinian activists:

Whatever building a media organisation wants bombed nowadays they can simply put the word Hamas before it and Israel will do the job. This is repulsive, unethical. Shame on the BCC. Shame on Israel. Shame on the world.

But it’s not only newsrooms in on the big conspiracy. A Philadelphia sports reporter allegedly lost his job after responding to a Philadelphia 76ers statement about the Israel-Hamas conflict. The now unemployed writer Jackson Frank believes the NBA and all major sports organizations are somehow begging Israel to go to war:

But nothing for the 75 years of ongoing violence against Palestine happening as we speak. Got it. Sports organizations are selectively involving themselves in geopolitics to manufacture consent.

It’s laugh or cry in circumstances like this. Thankfully, the Party for Socialism and Liberation asked singer Kehlani why she joined a Pro-Hamas demonstration in California, and we can at least laugh at her claim that decades of conflict are simple.

. @kehlani on Palestine: “I don’t think it’s a complicated situation at all. I think it’s black and white, and you have a choice to see it or not.” PSL speaks with Kehlani in LA while marching in solidarity with Palestine

Marching for Terrorism

Speaking of socialists and solidarity marches, you may have wondered how so many spontaneous Pro-Hamas demonstrations could seemingly pop up overnight. Obviously in an interconnected world you’re going to see plenty of people like Rashida Tlaib and John Cusack revealing their true colors, but getting thousands of people spouting Pro-Hamas talking points takes a lot more organizational effort.

So you probably won’t be surprised to find out that the ANSWER Coalition is mixed up in the highly publicized demonstrations across the country. Remember ANSWER, which stands for Act Now to Stop War and End Racism, was formed in 2001 after the 9/11 attacks on New York City and Washington, DC.

Here’s ANSWER’s coverage of the Washington, DC protest and promotion of the lie about Israel bombing the Gaza hospital:

‼️WASHINGTON DC:

Thousands in front of the White House currently after Israel bombed a hospital in Gaza, massacring hundreds.

Biden is on a plane to Israel right now to shake the bloodsoaked hands of Israeli leaders and supply Israel more weapons.

End all US aid to Israel!

ANSWER and its allies are also just getting started. The group appears to be spearheading a major demonstration in Washington on November 4th, and just like the leftist Women’s March of 2017, will be providing transportation:

NATIONAL MARCH FOR PALESTINE: Sat. Nov. 4 @ 12pm @ the White House! End US aid to Israel, the siege of Gaza & the occupation!

The US is a partner in Israel’s genocide, but the people stand with Palestine!

#FreePalestine

Other socialist-leaning groups sponsoring the November 4th event include:

  • Palestinian Youth Movement
  • American Muslim Association
  • The People’s Forum
  • National Students for Justice in Palestine
  • Al-Awda: The Palestine Right to Return Coalition
  • U.S. Palestinian Community Network (USPCN)
  • U.S. Campaign for Palestinian Rights (USCPR)
  • Maryland2Palestine

Given the pro-Hamas wokeness of the past weeks, it’s safe to say there will be plenty of calls for de-escalation, decolonization, and ceasefire… with none of it directed at Hamas.
